Revved up from scoring two goals against the league leaders last week at Chelmer Park we were off up the A12 again to Witham this time!

With a full squad and subs on rotation the 7s captain Suzanne BD fully briefed the team on positions, game plan and feedback from last week’s match! Following some fabulous demonstrations of positions/tactics and with the promise of winning chocolate for the next goal scored, the L7s were ready to play!

Again, the first 15 minutes went to plan, but then against the run of play Witham scored on the break. We continued to work hard, created 3 penalty corners, with new members of the team injecting and receiving. But that goal still alluded us! We continued to communicate and tried and use the width and played to our best ability but by half time we were still 1-0 down.

Not disheartened, captain Suzanne BD’s Team talk focussed upon the positives and the team set off again with renewed enthusiasm. The L7s worked hard, passing the ball to the left and right wings and with a number of attempts on goal. Witham fought back hard and defended strongly. With 3 minutes to go the 7s pushed forward with “Wasp” making an absolutely beautiful pass into the D which was greatly admired by two forwards and the captain. If it had connected with a stick would have been a peach of a goal! Witham’s defence in taters, breathed a sigh of relief! The whistle blew, it was not to be. But the 7s can take great heart in knowing that they created opportunities, communication between players had increased and it was an enjoyable game.

Player of the match Beatrice Smith. Big shout outs for the whole team for an amazing performance!

Thank you to our supporters and for our sponsor William Purcell who came to cheer us on – much appreciated!

Next week we are at away against Southend and Benfleet 3 @ 14.15 for our first win and to score more goals!
