Ladies' 3rd XI v Crostyx 1
The Ladies 3s had the early start of 10am on the freshly cleaned water pitch.
After 20 mins of a different style of warm up; water spreading after over watering the pitch! The team went out full of hope and needing a win after some unfortunate and unlucky draws recently.
Welcoming back Sally Dalton after injury and welcoming a rare outing by Kath Macdonald the team had lots of experience amongst the ranks. Chelmsford started strong and with the solid defence passing the ball around the back, Kath attacking from right defence creating overlaps and some excellent passing between Fiona Neave and Laura Clesham.
The possession didnít create too many chances as the final passes went array or the ball got stuck in the soaking pitch. However the continued pressure paid off when the ball was switched from left to right, Kath drove into the D and squared it to a waiting Sam Wilkinson who calmly stopped the ball before placing it over the defender on the line. A great team goal created due to excellent passing.
Half time came and with a 1-0 lead Chelmsford were confident of winning and scoring more goals.
Andrea Allen made an appearance also returning from injury and gave a different dimension with attacking from the left of defence. The team were passing well all around the pitch, switching around the back with even more confidence. Holly Guy was amazing with her pressure up front on hit outs, and created a formidable first line of defence with Jo Guy playing alongside. Solid tracking in the midfield by Nikki Mckenzie and Sally Dalton who had a feisty opponent, Henney Murray using her speed to beat the right defence, Holly Guy continuing to pressure any defenders possession, everything was working well.
A cooly struck penalty corner by Sam was somehow saved on the line by a defending player, and a deserved second goal was denied.
Half way through the second half Crostyx gained some momentum and started to attack. From this pressure came a penalty corner and they took their chance just beating the player on the post after initial saves from the keeper and defence.
At 1-1 all to play for an the greens fought valiantly, although all the pressure still didn't seem to create many scoring opportunities. A disappointing and undeserved draw again.
Players of the match Laura Clesham and Kath Macdonald.
Team mascot Terry won best photo for the month!
Next week sees a tough match against second in the table Thurrock, but followed by the Christmas social to get team spirits up.
